Best uses
- Program a beat for a sketch or a full track without any samples
- Classic 808 and 909 style grooves that follow the song's tempo
- Generate fresh patterns from a seed and keep the ones you like
- Play the kit from MIDI pads or a drum track (General MIDI notes)
- Send kick, snare, hats and percussion to their own tracks with Groups
Properties
An instrument: MIDI in, stereo out (or four stereo pairs with Outputs Groups), no samples. Ten synthesized voices after the classic drum machines: a sine kick with click and pitch sweep, a two-tone snare with noise, a three-burst clap, rim/clave, closed and open hats and a cymbal from six detuned squares (the closed hat chokes the open one), two toms with pitch sweep and a two-square cowbell. A 16-step sequencer locked to the host's beat while it plays: steps are hit, accent, flam or roll, each track has its own length (1 to 16 steps), with swing up to 75%. Probability and Generate draw from an exact Park-Miller sequence from Seed, so a pattern always comes back the same. General MIDI drum notes (36 kick, 38 snare, 39 clap, 37 rim, 42 closed hat, 46 open hat, toms, 56 cowbell, 49 cymbal) play the voices at any time, with velocity. Drive is a soft clipper and Grit a sample-and-hold with bit reduction on the whole kit. Sample-accurate and the same in the JSFX, the GFX version and the VST3/CLAP.
