Controls

  • ModeSplit / Merge — Split: the input on channels 1/2 is divided into bands on channels 1-8; Merge: channels 1-8 are summed back into 1/2
  • Bands2 to 4 — Number of bands (2, 3 or 4): band 1 on channels 1/2, band 2 on 3/4, band 3 on 5/6, band 4 on 7/8
  • Crossover 130 to 1000 Hz — Frequency between band 1 and band 2
  • Crossover 2200 to 6000 Hz — Frequency between band 2 and band 3 (kept at least 1.5x Crossover 1)
  • Crossover 31000 to 16000 Hz — Frequency between band 3 and band 4 (kept at least 1.5x Crossover 2)
  • ListenOff / Band 1 / Band 2 / Band 3 / Band 4 — Puts one band on channels 1/2 to hear it on its own (Split mode)

Best uses

  • Multiband processing with any plugin: a saturator only on the lows, a de-esser only on the highs
  • Multiband stereo widening with a mono low end
  • Parallel band chains in one track, merged back with a second instance
  • Auditioning crossover points before setting up a multiband chain

Properties

Signal chain (Split): Input → Linkwitz-Riley 4th-order crossover cascade (24 dB/oct, TPT state-variable filters) → allpass phase compensation on the lower bands → bands on channel pairs 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8. The bands sum to a flat (allpass) response. Merge sums the four channel pairs into 1/2 and silences 3-8. Set the track to 8 channels and route each band's plugins to its pins. Zero latency.
