HUMANIZE
Random Timing, Velocity & Groove for MIDI
Controls
Best uses
- Loosen up quantized drum programming so it sounds played
- Give step-sequenced keys and pads natural velocity variation
- Add swing to straight MIDI parts without editing them
- A laid-back or pushing feel for a whole part
- Repeatable humanization: the same seed sounds the same on every playback
Properties
A MIDI effect: MIDI in, MIDI out, the audio passes through untouched (place it before an instrument). A MIDI effect cannot send a note before it arrives, so everything goes out a fixed latency later (Timing plus Push's move), reported for delay compensation; each note-on then moves by a random amount within ±Timing plus the groove's shift at its place in the beat (the host's beat while it plays, a beat at the tempo while it is stopped). A note-off follows the groove at its own place and never comes before its note-on; a pitch two notes share starts again cleanly; all notes off releases the channel's notes first; other messages keep their place, the latency later. The random numbers are an exact Park-Miller sequence from Seed, started again at every transport start. Sample-accurate and the same in the JSFX, the GFX version and the VST3/CLAP.
