Controls

  • ModeChord / Progression — Chord plays a chord on every key; Progression lets the white keys from C play the steps of the chosen chord progression.
  • KeyC / C# / D / D# / E / F / F# / G / G# / A / A# / B — The key the chords (or the progression) are in.
  • ScaleMajor / Minor / Harmonic Minor / Melodic Minor / Dorian / Phrygian / Lydian / Mixolydian / Locrian — The scale the chords are built from in Chord mode (major, minor, harmonic or melodic minor and the modes); a key outside it plays the chord of the scale note below. Progression mode uses the progression's own major or minor.
  • Chord TypeTriad / 7th / 9th / Sus2 / Sus4 / Power — What every key plays: a triad, a 7th or 9th chord stacked in the scale, a sus2 or sus4 chord, or a power chord (root, fifth, octave).
  • InversionRoot / 1st / 2nd / 3rd — Moves the lowest notes of the chord up an octave: root position, first, second or third inversion.
  • VoicingClose / Drop 2 / Open / Wide — Spreads the chord: Close keeps it within an octave, Drop 2 drops the second-highest note an octave, Open lifts every other note, Wide also drops the bass an octave.
  • Octave−2 to +2 — Moves every chord up or down by octaves (-2 to +2).
  • Strum0 to 200 ms — Plays the notes of each chord one after another, this far apart (0 to 200 ms), like a strummed guitar or a harp; notes not yet played when the key is released are skipped.
  • Strum DirectionUp / Down / Alternate — The order of the strum: upward, downward, or alternating with every chord.
  • Velocity Curve−100 to +100% — Shapes the velocity of the chord notes: positive values play soft touches louder, negative values make them softer (0% passes it unchanged).
  • ProgressionI-V-vi-IV / I-vi-IV-V / vi-IV-I-V / I-IV-vi-V / ii-V-I / Canon / i-VI-III-VII / i-VII-VI-V / i-iv-V-i — The chord progression of Progression mode: C, D, E, F, G, A and B play its steps in turn (I-V-vi-IV, I-vi-IV-V, vi-IV-I-V, I-IV-vi-V, ii-V-I, Pachelbel's Canon, i-VI-III-VII, i-VII-VI-V and i-iv-V-i).

Best uses

  • Play full chords with one finger on any MIDI instrument, always in key
  • Sketch songs fast: the white keys play a whole progression in any key
  • Rich 7th and 9th voicings with Drop 2 or Open for keys and pads
  • Strummed guitar-like chords or harp rolls from a single key
  • Power chords for rock and synth leads

Properties

A MIDI effect: MIDI in, MIDI out, the audio passes through untouched (place it before an instrument). Chords are stacked in thirds inside the scale (sus2/sus4 swap the third for the second or fourth), then inverted, voiced, moved by octaves and kept within 0 to 127. Every note-on sent is remembered with the key that made it, so the key's release always ends exactly those notes, whatever was changed meanwhile; strum notes still waiting are dropped; a note two keys share sounds until both are released; all notes off (CC 120/123) releases every key of its channel. Pitch bend, controllers and sustain pass through; poly pressure goes to every note of the key's chord. Sample-accurate and the same in the JSFX, the GFX version and the VST3/CLAP.
