MID/SIDE MATRIX

Controls

• Mid Gain−6 to +6 dB — Level of the Mid component.
• Side Gain−6 to +6 dB — Level of the Side component.
• ModeEncode / Decode — Encode turns L/R into Mid (left output) and Side (right output); Decode turns Mid/Side back into L/R.

Best uses

• Mid/side processing with other plugins between an encoder and decoder
• Adjusting the balance of centre and sides
• Recording and decoding M/S microphone setups
• Inspecting the mid and side content separately

Properties

Encode: L/R → Mid = (L+R)×0.707, Side = (L−R)×0.707 → Mid on left, Side on right. Decode: Mid (left) / Side (right) → gains → L/R. Encode followed by Decode is unity gain; zero latency.
