REFERENCE
A/B Your Mix Against a Reference
Controls
Best uses
- A/B a mix against a commercial track at the same loudness
- Check a master's tonal balance and width against a reference
- Compare two versions of a mix routed to the same track
- Mono and side checks of mix and reference with one switch
Properties
Both inputs are K-weighted (ITU-R BS.1770) and measured as short-term loudness (the last 3 s, every 100 ms). With Level Match on, the reference's gain moves a tenth of the way to the difference every 100 ms (about a second to settle), within ±24 dB, and holds while either source is below -60 LUFS; Trim is added. Listen crossfades linearly over 10 ms. Monitor folds after the switch. The interfaces show both loudnesses, the reference's gain, each source's stereo correlation (averaged over about 3 s) and both spectra (each bin averaged over about a second, the reference at its played gain). No latency, no Rack module (it needs a second stereo input).
