Controls

  • Sensitivity0 to 100% — How easily a burst counts as a plosive: the low band must jump above the high band and its own average by 12 dB at 0% down to 0 dB at 100% (6 dB at the default 50%).
  • Frequency60 to 400 Hz — Crossover frequency (60 to 400 Hz): only the band below it is detected and turned down.
  • Max Reduction0 to 30 dB — The most the low band is turned down during a plosive (0 to 30 dB).
  • Release20 to 300 ms — How fast the low band comes back after the pop (20 to 300 ms).
  • ListenOff / On — On outputs only what is being removed, to hear exactly what the detector catches.

Best uses

  • Remove P and B pops from close-miked vocals
  • Clean plosives from podcasts, voice-over and dialogue
  • Tame thumps from handheld mics and stand bumps
  • Fix pops after recording without a high-pass that thins the whole voice

Properties

Signal chain: Linkwitz-Riley 24 dB/oct crossover at Frequency (sums back flat) → detector on both channels: fast low- and high-band envelopes (1 ms / 30 ms) and a slow low-band average (200 ms); when the low band rises above both by more than the threshold it is cut by twice the excess, up to Max Reduction (1 ms attack, Release) → bands summed. Both bands run 5 ms late (look-ahead) so the onset is caught; that latency is reported for delay compensation. Only the low band is ever changed.
