Controls

  • Sample FileWAV file in REAPER/Data/null_jsfx_samples — The WAV or FLAC file to play, from REAPER's Data/null_jsfx_samples folder; without a file a built-in soft electric-piano sound at C4 plays (the VST3/CLAP pick any file with their file browser).
  • ModeOne-shot / Chromatic — One-shot plays every key at the sample's own pitch to its end (note-offs and Loop are ignored); Chromatic transposes it from Root Key and plays while the key or the sustain pedal is held.
  • Root Key0 to 127 — The key at which the sample plays at its original pitch in Chromatic mode (0 to 127, C4 = 60).
  • Transpose−24 to +24 st — Transposes every note (-24 to +24 semitones).
  • Fine−100 to +100 ct — Fine tuning (-100 to +100 cents).
  • Attack1 to 5000 ms — Attack time of the level envelope (1 ms to 5 s).
  • Decay1 to 5000 ms — Decay time towards the Sustain level (1 ms to 5 s).
  • Sustain0 to 100% — Sustain level of the envelope (0 to 100%); at 0% a note ends after its decay.
  • Release1 to 5000 ms — Release time after the key (and the pedal) let go (1 ms to 5 s).
  • Cutoff20 to 20000 Hz — Cutoff of the 12 dB/octave low-pass filter (20 Hz to 20 kHz; at 20 kHz with no Filter Env the filter is off).
  • Resonance0 to 100% — Resonance of the filter at the cutoff (0 to 100%).
  • Filter Env−100 to +100% — How far the filter envelope moves the cutoff at the note's start (-100 to +100%, up to 6 octaves up or down).
  • Filter Decay1 to 5000 ms — How long the filter envelope takes to come back (1 ms to 5 s).
  • LoopOff / On — Loop On repeats Loop Start..Loop End while a note sounds (Chromatic only); the step at the loop's end is smoothed.
  • Loop Start0 to 100% — Where the loop starts, as a share of the sample (0 to 100%).
  • Loop End0 to 100% — Where the loop ends, as a share of the sample (0 to 100%).
  • Start0 to 100% — Skips into the sample: where every note starts (0 to 100%).
  • ReverseOff / On — Plays the sample backwards (Start and the loop then count from its end).
  • Velocity0 to 100% — How much the key velocity changes the level (0% plays every note the same).
  • Bend Range0 to 24 st — Pitch-bend range (0 to 24 semitones).
  • Volume−24 to +12 dB — The output level (-24 to +12 dB).

Best uses

  • Play your own one-shots (hits, stabs, vocal chops) from a keyboard or pads
  • Turn a single recorded note into a playable chromatic instrument
  • Looped pads and drones from any sustained sample
  • Reverse swells and filtered textures from found sounds
  • Quick sketching with the built-in electric-piano sound

Properties

An instrument: MIDI in, stereo out, 16 voices (a 17th note takes the oldest released voice, else the oldest, with a 2 ms fade). Reads WAV and FLAC (mono, stereo; more channels play the first two) up to 4,194,304 sample values, at the file's own rate with 4-point Hermite interpolation. Linear attack and exponential decay/release, a TPT state-variable low-pass per voice with its own decaying envelope, loop with a declick of the jump, 3 ms fade at the sample's end, sustain pedal (CC 64), all notes off (CC 123), all sound off (CC 120), pitch bend. Without a file a deterministic built-in sound is generated, so it always makes sound.

Formats

  • JSFXJSFX for REAPER, with REAPER's own sliders
  • GFXJSFX GFX for REAPER, with its own interface
  • VST3VST3 for any DAW
  • CLAPCLAP for any DAW
