Controls

  • EngineAnalog / Wavetable — Engine: Analog (two classic oscillators) or Wavetable (both oscillators read the selected table).
  • Osc 1 WaveSaw / Square / Triangle / Sine — Osc 1's wave in the Analog engine: Saw, Square (both band-limited), Triangle or Sine.
  • Osc 2 WaveSaw / Square / Triangle / Sine — Osc 2's wave in the Analog engine: Saw, Square, Triangle or Sine.
  • Osc 2 Semi−24 to +24 st — Osc 2's tuning against Osc 1 in semitones (-24 to +24), for octaves and fifths; in both engines.
  • Osc 2 Detune−50 to +50 ct — Osc 2's fine tuning in cents (-50 to +50) for the classic beating of two detuned oscillators.
  • Osc Mix0 to 100% — The balance between Osc 1 (0%) and Osc 2 (100%).
  • Sub0 to 100% — A sine one octave below Osc 1 (0 to 100%) for weight in basses and leads.
  • Noise0 to 100% — White noise added to every voice (0 to 100%), for breath and attack.
  • TableBasic / Pulse / Organ / Vocal / Glass / Sync / Fold / Digital — The wavetable for the Wavetable engine: Basic (sine to square), Pulse (width), Organ (drawbars), Vocal (vowels), Glass (high partials), Sync, Fold and Digital; all made by synthesis, no files.
  • Position0 to 100% — Where in the table it reads (0 to 100%): the table's frames morph smoothly into each other.
  • Filter ModeLow Pass / Band Pass / High Pass — The filter: Low Pass, Band Pass or High Pass.
  • Slope12 dB / 24 dB — The filter's steepness: 12 dB or 24 dB per octave.
  • Cutoff20 to 20000 Hz — The filter's cutoff frequency (20 Hz to 20 kHz).
  • Resonance0 to 100% — The resonance (0 to 100%): a peak at the cutoff, close to whistling at the top.
  • Filter Env−100 to +100% — How far the filter envelope moves the cutoff (-100 to +100%, up to six octaves either way).
  • Key Track0 to 100% — How much the cutoff follows the key (0 to 100%; 100% keeps the same brightness on every note).
  • Filter Attack1 to 10000 ms — The filter envelope's attack time (1 ms to 10 s).
  • Filter Decay1 to 10000 ms — The filter envelope's decay time (1 ms to 10 s).
  • Filter Sustain0 to 100% — The filter envelope's sustain level (0 to 100%).
  • Filter Release1 to 10000 ms — The filter envelope's release time after the key is let go (1 ms to 10 s).
  • Attack1 to 10000 ms — The amp envelope's attack time (1 ms to 10 s): short for plucks, long for pads.
  • Decay1 to 10000 ms — The amp envelope's decay time (1 ms to 10 s).
  • Sustain0 to 100% — The amp envelope's sustain level (0 to 100%); at 0 every note dies away like a pluck.
  • Release1 to 10000 ms — The amp envelope's release time after the key is let go (1 ms to 10 s).
  • LFO ShapeSine / Triangle / Square / Saw / Random — The LFO's shape: Sine, Triangle, Square, Saw or Random (a new value each cycle).
  • LFO Rate0.05 to 20 Hz — The LFO's rate in Hz (0.05 to 20) when LFO Sync is Off.
  • LFO SyncOff / 1/1 / 1/2 / 1/4 / 1/8 / 1/16 / 1/4T / 1/8T / 1/4D / 1/8D — Locks the LFO to a note value of the host tempo (1/1 to 1/16, triplets and dotted), in step with the beat while the host plays.
  • LFO Pitch0 to 12 st — How far the LFO bends the pitch (0 to 12 semitones); the mod wheel adds a vibrato of up to half a semitone.
  • LFO Filter0 to 4 oct — How far the LFO moves the cutoff (0 to 4 octaves), for wobbles and sweeps.
  • LFO Position0 to 100% — How far the LFO moves the wavetable Position (0 to 100%).
  • Glide0 to 2000 ms — Glide time (0 to 2000 ms): notes slide from the previous pitch.
  • Voice ModePoly / Mono / Legato — Poly plays up to 8 notes; Mono plays one and retriggers; Legato plays one and only glides between connected notes.
  • Unison1 to 4 — Oscillators per voice (1 to 4), detuned and spread across the stereo field for a thicker sound.
  • Spread0 to 100% — How far the Unison voices are detuned and panned (0 to 100%).
  • Character0 to 100% — One macro for character (0 to 100%): drive before the filter, an octave of brightness and wider detune.
  • Chorus Mix0 to 100% — The built-in chorus's mix (0 to 100%), for width and movement.
  • Delay Mix0 to 100% — The tempo-synced ping-pong delay's mix (0 to 100%).
  • Delay Time1/16 / 1/8T / 1/8 / 1/8D / 1/4T / 1/4 / 1/4D / 1/2 — The delay time as a note value at the host tempo (1/16 to 1/2, triplets and dotted).
  • Delay Feedback0 to 90% — How much of the delay comes back (0 to 90%); the repeats get darker.
  • Reverb Mix0 to 100% — The built-in reverb's mix (0 to 100%).
  • Reverb Size0 to 100% — The reverb's size (0 to 100%): from a short room to a long, dark hall.
  • Velocity0 to 100% — How much the velocity changes the loudness and the filter envelope (0 to 100%).
  • Bend Range0 to 24 st — The pitch bend range in semitones (0 to 24).
  • Octave−3 to +3 — Moves the whole instrument by octaves (-3 to +3).
  • Volume−24 to +12 dB — The output level (-24 to +12 dB).

Best uses

  • Warm pads and evolving wavetable pads with chorus and a long reverb
  • Mono leads with glide, unison and a synced delay
  • Plucks, soft keys and arpeggios
  • Vintage string machine with four-voice unison and deep chorus
  • Analog, sub and wobble basses (LFO synced to the tempo)
  • Digital bells and organ tones from the built-in tables

Properties

An instrument: MIDI in, stereo out, no samples, 8 voices (a new note takes a silent voice, then the oldest released one, then the oldest; a sounding voice keeps its envelope and phases, so nothing clicks). Analog: PolyBLEP saw and square, triangle, sine. Wavetable: eight tables of eight frames made at load by synthesis (additive or one cycle through the FFT), band-limited per octave and read with linear interpolation between samples and frames. Per voice: a state-variable filter (12 or 24 dB, low, band or high pass), linear-attack exponential ADSRs for amp and filter. A global LFO (smoothed over 2 ms), sample-accurate MIDI with sustain pedal, mod wheel vibrato, pitch bend and all notes off, then chorus, ping-pong delay and an eight-line feedback delay network reverb. Deterministic (Park-Miller noise) and the same in the JSFX, the GFX version and the VST3/CLAP.
